Trailer for "The Franchise: A Season with the San Francisco Giants"

First you have "Hard Knocks" from HBO. (Tampa Bay rumored to be this season's team) Then you have the 24/7 preview for upcoming championship boxing fights. Then you have 24/7 documentary series with the Caps and Pens for the Winter Classic. (Editor's note: No one cared about 24/7 Nascar) Now Showtime is trying to counter with "The Franchise" which initial season follows around the San Francisco Giants. I didn't think baseball would work because it's too laid back, but I guess with the power of editing, charismatic players (See Wilson, Brian) and uncensored microphones, you probably have TV success.

If only David Stern let the NBA have a show ("The Association" doesn't count, it's on ESPN) that would follow a team uncensored, then all four major sports would be spoken for. Here's the trailer from yesterday and the series premieres on July 13th.

Ever Wonder What Managers Say to Umpires

Here is Minor League Umpire Wally Backman mic'd up arguing with an umpire.

Language Warning for those in the office.

Oh yeah, does the name Wally Backman sound familiar? Probably because of this meltdown from last year.

"They're Smoking Weed"

Rangers - Giants World Series started last night. Here's a reporter from Dallas (ed note: boooooooooo) reporting outside PacBell (I won't call it AT&T) and he smells something that is very familiar.

View more news videos at: http://www.nbcdfw.com/video.

Also from the Dallas-Fort Worth Daily News:

Maybe this explains the Rangers' shoddy play in the field during Game 1: A haze of marijuana coming from the stands.

The New York Post quotes Josh Hamilton as saying he could smell weed last night while playing center field at AT&T Park.

"It was crazy," he told the tabloid. "I was looking at the cops a couple of times during the game."

Hamilton didn't attribute any of the Rangers' four errors to the pot fumes -- but Vlad Guerrero's bumbling, two-error performance in right field does makes one wonder.

Hamilton, whose history of drug and alcohol abuse is well-chronicled, said last night wasn't the first time he saw pot going up in smoke in San Francisco.

On Tuesday, he said, "My wife and I were walking down the street and there was a guy smoking a joint with a cop 50 yards away."

At Bat Music Prank

According to Deadspin, Diamondbacks first basemen Adam LaRoche had Kelly Johnson's at bat music changed to "It's Raining Men." I like a good prank when I see it and thought this was funny.

11 Year Old Kid Breaks Arm Running to 3rd Base

Easy enough. Kid runs to 3rd base, picks it up and runs back to left field. Easy enough. Instead he stumbles and breaks his arm in front of 30,000 people. Give Beecher credit, he tried to walk it off.

Foul Ball Hit Towards Couple, Boyfriend Bails

Out in Houston, a foul ball gets hit towards this couple. The boyfriend sees the ball coming and saves his girlfriend by getting in front of the ball. Well that's how he envisioned it. Instead he completely wimped out and bailed and the girl gets hit by the foul ball. Who said chivalry was dead?

Derek Jeter vs. Cristiano Ronaldo

There were recent rumors that Cristiano Ronaldo came into the US, took Kim K against her will, and brought her out to Spain. Ok I made up the unwillingly part, but Ronaldo should stick to Europe and not come over here and take our attractive women. Then I saw his resume. Very impressive. The only athlete I could think of that could compete with him (besides Big Ben) is Derek Jeter. I am a Yankee Hater, but his resume is quite impressive as well.

So Derek Jeter or Cristiano Ronaldo....who you got?

Sometimes an Upset Stomach is the Best Excuse

I got a friend. While in high school, this friend didn't want to work at his part time job. He's had excuse after excuse. So not wanting to be bothered, he had his mother call his job and say, "_____ can't make it into work today, he has explosive diarrhea."

What made me laugh was the fact that his mom used the term diarrhea and described how bad it was by using the term "explosive."

Well, current New York Yankee and overall pass around pitcher Chan Ho Park had a difficult outing the other day. Asked by reporters what happened, he sheepishly states his inner demons.

Hey man, we've all been there. No one ever admits it, but agrees, it's touch to pitch when you have a case of the runs. Best part to me is the reaction by Mariano Rivera in the background, who can't stop laughing while getting dressed.
