Gilbert Traded, Left Bittersweet
Gilby was finally traded to Orlando for Rashard Lewis. It's bittersweet because at one time, he was a top 10 player in the league that and averaged around 29 points a game. But now with a bum knee, he lost his explosion and quickness and flavor with the Wiz and both needed a fresh start. Good bye Gilby. It was 8 great, controversial, tumultuous years. We will always have these moments.

Boudreau's F Bomb Speech
Some quick 24/7 opinions. I thought they made the Pens have more personality than the Caps which is way opposite of how the teams are perceived. Granted Pens are on a 12 game win streak and the Caps are on a 7 (and counting) losing streak.
Second, loved that they miked up the fights, including Ovie's in NY. After they fight they complement each other. Ovie F bombing in English, sign me up.
BB's speech after the 2nd period of the Florida game was great. Combine that with Asst Coach Dean Evason's speech at the end of the 2nd intermission against the Rangers blowout, we have great TV.
Hopefully the Caps can turn it around this weekend against Boston and Ottawa so they can be looked at with some positivity and character.
Here is BB's rant and I'll put up Evason's once I find it.
I have never seen a bunch of guys look so fucking down when something bad happens. What are you guys, like prima donna perfect that you can't fucking handle adversity? So shit's not going right. It's not fucking working the last 10 days. Fucking get your heads out of your ass and fucking make it work by outworking the opposition. You killed two fucking men, and then we stand around and watch while they fucking score here.
Fucking you just come to the bench like fucking this (puts head down) and when is the power play is not working and you're trying to stick handle looking like this and not standing ... OUTWORK THE FUCKING GUYS. If you want it, don't just think you want it. Go out and fucking want it! But you're not looking like you want it. You look like you're feeling sorry for yourselves, and nobody fucking wants somebody that's feeling sorry for themselves. You've got 20 fucking minutes and you're down by one fucking shot. Surely the fuck we can deal with this.

The Fighter Comes Out on Friday
Marky Mark's biopic about boxer Irish Mickey Ward comes out on Friday and so far the reviews are good. Christian Bale is a favorite for Best Supporting Actor but who cares about him if he's not Batman. Back to Mark Wahlberg, I stumbled on part of the movie today, and lets just say, no wonder why this movie is highly anticipated.

Russia/Qatar to Host World Cup in 2018/2022
Consider me officially disappointed. I was looking forward to a sweet trip to England or Spain/Portugal in 2018 and the US hosting in 2022. But FIFA went with Russia and Qatar receptively. I am shocked about both, feel bad for England who really had their heart set on 2018 and thought they deserved it. It's the motherland of soccer.
As for the US, disappointing but life goes on. Sure they were the practical choice but since when is FIFA practical. FIFA is now going with 4 straight risky countries in a row (South Africa/Brazil/Russia/Qatar), but South Africa proved that it can be done. Even though they had a tough time filling in the stadium and ended up with an overall financial loss, the pageantry of having Africa host the beautiful game for the first time was too much for FIFA not to overlook, thus having first time hosts Russia and Qatar winning the bids. FIFA president Sepp Blatter always wanted to bring soccer to the "Arab World" and he got his wish. Definitely a man about legacy and is fulfilling it with Africa and now the Middle East.
As for the US, they go back to square one, losing the Olympic Chicago bid to Rio in 2016 and now the WC in 2022. They have 2026 and I think they are the early favorites to host now that China is no longer eligible to host because Qatar is considered in the Asian conference in soccer.
And who knows. I'm planning on going to Brazil in 2014 and maybe Russia/Qatar would be a cool place to go to. We'll see.
